Toyota Crawl Control | Helping You Go Places Beyond The Pavement

What is Crawl Control?

The Toyota Crawl Control feature is a off-road function to prevent the vehicle from getting stuck when driving on steep, rocky, muddy, terrain.  With it turned on the driver does not have to worry about controlling the brake or gas and can focus solely on steering.  By using sensors it can monitor the slippage of the wheels and provide the correct amount of power.  There are 5 low speed settings the driver can adjust.

What Models Have It?

Models currently offered by Toyota that are equipped with Crawl Control are Tacoma, Tundra, 4Runner, and Land Cruiser.  In order to have this feature, it must be a TRD (Toyota Racing Development) trim level. When Should I Use It?

Are you the adventure type?  Do you see steep mountain hills and have the urge to conquer them?  Do you test the limits of your four wheel drive constantly?  If you answered yes to any of these, you should try Crawl Control.  When your four wheel drive just wont cut it.  This is meant for extremely rough terrain.  The low gear setting transforms your vehicle into more of a tank to slowly make it up any obstacle.

How Do I Engage It?

There are a few steps to use this feature but it is simple to engage.  First put your foot on the brake and your vehicle in Neutral.  Second, turn the 4WD knob into 4L.  Next press the locking rear differential button located on the overhead console.  Put the vehicle back into drive.  Then press the Crawl Control button also located on the overhead console.  Finally the MID screen will show a Crawl Control speed display.  You can control the speed by turning the knob next to the Crawl Control button.
